BME Supports Rotary Challenge Series

A Day at the Races: BME Supports 21st Annual Challenge Series

The 21th Annual Challenge Series gravity racing event for children with special needs was held on Saturday, August 24, on Barrington Hill between Island Thrift and the Post Office.  The Rotary Club of North Whidbey Island Sunrise sponsors this activity for children with disabilities.  Children race with volunteer co-drivers down Barrington Hill, reaching speeds of more than 25 mph. The smiles and looks of triumph on faces were unforgettable.

BME donated a truck and trailer for transporting the cars from the finish line to the top of the hill.   Six BME employees worked loading/unloading cars and drivers.  Event donations augment Rotary’s local grants to literacy programs, school projects, scholarships, and other programs.
